Svanekegaarden presents AFSKUM, ready to envelop the venue in dark, high-energy synth rock and deliver heavy, brutal lyrics about life, society and love when he visits Bornholm on Wednesday, 30 September at 7:30 pm. AFSKUM burst onto the Danish music scene in 2022. He was on everyone’s lips around the Roskilde Rising stage that year, as word spread about a rapper serving brutally honest lyrics over a foundation of hard-hitting synth punk. Soundvenue later described the concert as “a big, explosive secret that someone has been keeping.” It is rare for a Danish artist to perform at Denmark’s biggest festival, sell out concerts and create such a mysterious hype without having released any music at all. When AFSKUM’s self-titled debut arrived in 2023, the magic did not disappear as he revealed more of himself. On the contrary, the album was a long-awaited bombshell of anxiety and humour that raised a defiant middle finger to the discriminatory systems that created the anxiety in the first place. After a few busy years, including another Roskilde concert and a Danish tour following the success of the debut album, AFSKUM was ready with new music. HJERTET/KNIVEN was released in 2025. The new songs cultivate the contrasts in AFSKUM’s universe, where light and darkness fight for space and control within him. Is there room for love when the night calls, filled with knives? Can you live with anger and grief and still be loved—and, even more importantly, still love? These themes define AFSKUM’s universe: darkness, honesty, intensity and hope.
