In June, Allinge sets the scene for Folkemødet, where all of Denmark gathers for conversations and debates under open skies, in the midst of the rugged nature. Soon after, the scent of sizzling pans spreads across the harbour when the culinary elite competes at Sol over Gudhjem.
Summer also brings intimate garden concerts in Gudhjem and fast-paced sports events on the hilly trails. Whether you are standing in a packed concert hall or cheering along the route, you feel the warmth and energy that arise when people come together.
Autumn and winter: Time to slow down and warm up
When the autumn wind shakes the trees, the island changes pace. It is time to slow down and dive deeper. Bornholms Kulturuge invites you inside in September for craft, theatre and music on a smaller scale, where you can experience the workshops up close.
In the dark months, the lights are lit in the old market towns. Bornholms Julemarked in Nexø turns the harbour into a living Christmas town with the scent of roasted almonds, warm drinks and local crafts. Here, islanders and visitors meet around the warm fire bowls as darkness settles over the Baltic Sea.
