Jonathan Fjord Bredholt’s elegant piano figures and atmospheric harmonium textures intertwine with Jeppe Lavsen’s crystalline guitar themes and Anders Juel Bomholt’s rocking double bass. The result is a remarkably engaging live experience, rich in both unity and detail.

Hvalfugl is a trio from Aarhus that has established itself as one of Denmark’s most distinctive instrumental groups since its debut in 2017. Their music moves freely between genres, combining close-knit interplay, dreamlike ambient music and melodies that unfold patiently.

The trio consists of Jonathan Fjord Bredholt on piano and harmonium, Jeppe Lavsen on guitar, and Anders Juel Bomholt on double bass. Their interplay balances warm acoustic sounds with subtle effects, creating a musical expression that is both intimate and insistent. As a live act, Hvalfugl is renowned for its presence and ability to create complete experiences, where compositions merge into coherent journeys that move and inspire audiences.

In 2025, Hvalfugl received the Live Act of the Year award at DMA Jazz. With the albums By, Som En Faldskærm and Øjeblikke Vi Husker, the trio laid the foundation for its dreamlike, atmospheric sound. Their 2025 double LP, Bag Vore Øjne Strømmer Drømme Sagte Forbi, brings together three years of work and EP releases in one work, enriched with new musical ideas and guest musicians.
