Gelato and summer life in the old ice works at Tejn Harbour

On its own pier at the water’s edge in Tejn Harbour is IS Kalas’ Isværket. The former industrial building has been given new life as a summer café, gelato production site and venue for pop-up events – with the sea and Bornholm’s raw harbour atmosphere right outside the door.

During the heyday of the fishing industry, ice flakes were produced here to cool the fishermen’s freshly caught fish. Today, IS Kalas makes ice cream in the building, giving its old purpose a new and very different meaning.

Isværket is located right by a small lagoon, also home to a hot tub and sauna. Settle down with an ice cream, enjoy the sea view and experience another side of the Bornholm summer – between the harbour’s history and the new life that has grown in Tejn.
