Discover the dramatic stories at Nexø Museum
What was life like in Nexø when sailing ships filled the harbor, and what actually happened when the town was bombed in May 1945?
At Nexø Museum, you can explore both. The museum is housed in the historic Nexøe Vagt building from 1796, right by the harbor, where much of the town’s history unfolded.
On the second floor, the exhibition En by i krig tells the story of the Soviet bombings on May 7 and 8, 1945. Through photographs, objects, and personal accounts, you gain insight into those dramatic days and the rebuilding of the town.
You can also delve into Nexø’s maritime past and learn about the ships, sailors, and trade that once made the harbor an important hub.
Continue your visit with a walk through the streets of Nexø, where you can still find traces of history, including the distinctive Swedish houses.
