Follow the cocoa bean from Fiji to chocolate on Bornholm
Step inside the open chocolate workshop at Pure Rainforest Chocolate in the old bread factory in Nyker. Here you can get close to the craft of bean-to-bar chocolate and discover how cocoa beans from places including Fiji are transformed into finished chocolate on Bornholm.
Pure Rainforest Chocolate is run by Heidrun and Hans Jørn Koefoed, who spend part of each year at the cocoa farm in the village of Namau in Fiji. Back on Bornholm, the beans are roasted and shelled by hand before being processed into dark chocolate. The chocolate is made primarily from cocoa beans and organic cane sugar, with no additional additives.
Chocolate with a story
Pure Rainforest Chocolate is certified by Pono Cocoa for a 100% child-slave free cocoa and chocolate supply chain. The certification is current and continues to be shown on the producer’s own website.
In the shop, you can explore dark chocolate made from different cocoa varieties from places including Fiji, Peru, Guatemala and Mexico, as well as cocoa nibs, cocoa beans, chocolate tea and hot chocolate.
To get even closer to the craft and its story, Pure Rainforest Chocolate also offers the “From farm to table” event, where you can hear, smell and taste your way through the chocolate-making process.
