Along the coastal path from Nørresand towards Salene, you will come across a striking rock formation with a distinctive film history. In 1917, Nordisk Film used these rocks as a backdrop for “Sicilianerrøverens Bryllup”. A stop on your walk near Gudhjem where coastal scenery and history meet.

Røverborgen
Visit Røverborgen on your walk along the coast from Nørresand towards Salene. The name Røverborgen was reportedly coined by the Gudhjem Tourist Association to make the landscape seem even more dramatic and exotic. Founded in 1907, the association saw making the countryside around the town accessible to tourists as one of its tasks. It built bathhouses, laid out paths in the forest and also built a bridge across Ravneskåret to Røverborgen.
Røverborgen as a film location
In 1917, Nordisk Film shot “Sicilianerrøverens Bryllup”, using Røverborgen as a backdrop. Today, the bridge is gone, but Røverborgen remains a striking and fascinating rock formation that sure-footed visitors can easily climb. You can find it by walking from Norresan along the coastal path towards Helligdomsklipperne.
How to find Røverborgen
