Sommerlunden in Nexø offers an atmospheric experience filled with tropical butterflies, creative activities, green gardens and impressive sand sculptures. Children and adults alike can explore peaceful surroundings where nature, art and togetherness blend into a cosy universe close to Bornholm’s natural scenery. Tropical butterflies fly freely among the green leaves of the Tropical House, while the Sandstone Garden features perennials, grasses and Bornholm rocks, creating small living landscapes between paths and plants. Throughout the grove, large sand sculptures rise as a natural part of the surroundings, inviting reflection and curiosity.

Experiences at your own pace

Sommerlunden is created as a place where nature sets the pace. There is room for quiet moments, creative activities and play beneath the trees. In the Mulberry House, imaginations can run free with colours, collages and natural materials, while the forest playground offers more active experiences for children. Between activities, visitors can relax in the café beneath the grapevine and enjoy coffee, homemade lunch, cold drinks, ice cream and light snacks in laid-back surroundings in the middle of the garden.

Sand sculptures inspired by H.C. Andersen’s fairy tales

Every year, Sommerlunden’s large sand sculptures are created by international sand artists using the special clay-rich sand from Klemensker. This year’s theme draws on H.C. Andersen’s world of fairy tales, where familiar stories are interpreted in sand among plants, water, paths and changing light.

Some figures will be easy to recognise, while others give the classic tales new forms and details. The sculptures invite visitors to experience H.C. Andersen’s stories in a different way and explore small details, moods and magical scenes throughout the grove.
