Discover the history of Christiansø from the top of Store Tårn
Step inside Store Tårn on Christiansø, where centuries of fortress history meet views of the Baltic Sea. The old granite tower was once an important part of the island's defenses, and today you can explore its history and see the archipelago from above.
Store Tårn was originally built to protect the entrance to Christiansø's harbor with its cannons. It was later converted into a lighthouse and withstood the British bombardment in 1808 during the Anglo-Danish Wars. When the fortress was decommissioned in 1855, the tower lost its purpose and slowly began to fall into disrepair.
Following extensive restoration completed in 2019, the tower has reopened its doors to visitors. Here you can discover historical stories and cultural activities before heading up to enjoy views of Christiansø, Frederiksø and the sea surrounding the islands.
Stop by Store Tårn and experience the history of Christiansø from a completely different perspective.
