Visit a top-secret Cold War facility at Dueodde
At Dueodde, you will find Bornholmertårnet – a former top-secret and highly secured surveillance facility from the Cold War, now open to visitors. Here, you can explore the former listening post of the Danish Defence Intelligence Service and experience stories, exhibitions and original artefacts from both World War II and the Cold War on Bornholm.
Inside the former intelligence rooms, you will gain insight into Bornholm’s unique role during the Cold War and Denmark’s surveillance of the countries behind the Iron Curtain. Through photographs, films, radios and historical objects, the exhibitions tell the story of surveillance, espionage and everyday life on Bornholm during a time marked by tensions between East and West.
One of Bornholm’s best views
The large white tower at Dueodde was built in 1986 and rises 70 metres above the landscape. From the top, you can enjoy impressive views across Dueodde’s pine forests, white sandy beaches and large parts of eastern Bornholm. If you do not wish to climb the more than 400 steps to the top, the tower also has an elevator.
Around the area, you can also explore the old lighthouse from 1879, former technical installations and traces from the facility’s time as a secret listening station.
Spy hunts and experiences for the whole family
Bornholmertårnet is both a museum and an experience centre with activities for both children and adults. The whole family can join the popular spy hunt, which takes visitors through the exhibitions, up the tower and around the site while learning more about world history and Bornholm’s role during the Cold War.
The spy hunt is available in different versions for several age groups and combines play, learning and fascinating stories from a time when Bornholm played an important role between East and West.
