Let the Heart Speak – Community Singing Concert with the Chamber Choir Richters Skala

The chamber choir Richters Skala invites you to a community singing concert in Svaneke Church, drawing on the Danish Folk High School Songbook. The programme interweaves community singing, newly written choral arrangements and songs performed with a multi-part choir, dissolving the boundary between audience and choir. The audience can sing along to beloved classics and discover lesser-known and newer songs. Short stories connect the songs and guide participants through the concert's themes. The concert aims to deepen the musical experience of the Folk High School Songbook by inviting the audience into the choir and presenting newer songs that deserve to be heard. The choir also wishes to engage with Bornholm's cultural life and create exchange with the island's local music scene. Local composer Hans Askou is therefore included in the programme. The choir performs three of his works, two of which will receive their premieres during the choir's concerts at Bornholm Culture Week. Above all, the concert creates musical encounters between island and city, community singing and classical choral music, audience and performers. Tickets can be purchased in advance via the link below or at the door, subject to online availability. A Bornholm Culture Week wristband must also be shown at entry and can be bought at the door. Doors open at 7 pm. Richters Skala also performs on Friday 18 September at 7.30 pm in Østerlars Church. About Richters Skala: Richters Skala is an ambitious chamber choir of 26 singers, founded in 2021 by Laus Richter Larsen. Based in Frederiksberg, the choir specialises in the classical repertoire, with a particular fondness for Nordic choral music. The choir strives for a high artistic level while giving every singer a significant soloistic responsibility. Richters Skala performs throughout Denmark and collaborates with other musicians, including the baroque orchestra Originalerne for performances of works by Antonio Vivaldi and the string quartet AKELA. About Laus Richter Larsen: Laus Richter Larsen (they/them) is a trained choral conductor, singer and vocal teacher from the Royal Danish Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. They specialise in Nordic musical traditions, contemporary choral music and vocal improvisation, and teach children and adults with a strong desire to communicate classical music to people of all ages.
