Just outside Gudhjem lies Melstedgård – a living farm museum where the whole family can experience what life on Bornholm was like in the past. In these historic surroundings, traditional farm life meets modern food culture, offering animals, activities, storytelling and cosy experiences for both children and adults.

The farm dates back to the early 1600s and is today operated by Bornholm Museum. Visitors can explore the farmhouse, stables and gardens while the scent of freshly baked rye bread, traditional crafts and living history creates a truly special atmosphere.

Living history and experiences for the whole family

There is almost always something happening at Melstedgård. Inside the farmhouse, traditional crafts such as weaving, sewing and cooking are demonstrated, while children can meet the farm animals in the stables and fields.

During the summer holidays, daily activities and workshops invite visitors to cook over open fire, join foraging trips, take horse carriage rides or learn about traditional food culture and local ingredients. This makes Melstedgård both an educational and cosy experience for all ages.

Food culture house, café and local flavours

Next to the farm is the Food Culture House, where workshops and activities focus on Bornholm ingredients and culinary traditions. Visitors can explore fermentation, homemade ice cream and other local food experiences. At the café Skafferiet, guests can enjoy a light lunch, coffee and cake or buy locally produced goods to take home after a day filled with history, animals and cosy Bornholm atmosphere.
