Sommerlunden in Nexø offers a charming summer experience filled with tropical butterflies, creative activities, lush gardens and impressive sand sculptures. Both children and adults can explore peaceful surroundings where nature, art and summer atmosphere come together in a unique setting close to Bornholm’s beautiful landscape. Inside the Tropical House, colourful butterflies fly freely among exotic plants, while the Sandstone Garden features grasses, flowers and local Bornholm stone creating small living landscapes between paths and greenery. Throughout the garden, large sand sculptures rise naturally from the surroundings, inviting visitors to slow down and explore.

Bornholm summer at its own pace

Sommerlunden is designed as a place where nature sets the pace. There is room for quiet moments, creative activities and playful experiences beneath the trees. In the Mulberry House, visitors can enjoy colours, collages and natural materials, while the forest playground offers more active fun for children. Between experiences, guests can relax at the café beneath the grapevines with coffee, homemade lunches, cold drinks, ice cream and light snacks in cosy garden surroundings.

Sand sculptures inspired by the stories of H.C. Andersen

Each year, Sommerlunden’s impressive sand sculptures are created by international sand artists using the special clay-rich sand from Klemensker. This year’s theme is inspired by the fairy tales of H.C. Andersen, where familiar stories are reimagined in sand among plants, pathways, water and summer light.

Some sculptures will immediately feel familiar, while others present the classic tales in surprising new ways. Together, the sculptures create an imaginative experience where visitors can rediscover Andersen’s stories through art and nature.
