Women in Art: When Women Took Their Place

Women have always created art on equal terms with men, yet far too few of their lives and works have received the place in art history they deserve. Drawing on the book series Women in Art, art historian Sine Krogh, MA and PhD, invites audiences to a lively talk about three prominent artists and their struggle for recognition.

Meet Golden Age painter Elisabeth Jerichau Baumann, flower painter Nicoline Tuxen and the bold avant-garde painter Franciska Clausen. Through their art and careers, the talk portrays three different eras in Danish art and the barriers women encountered along the way. Baumann plays a central role; in recent years, Sine Krogh has both written books and given talks about this indomitable cosmopolitan.

Sine Krogh works at the University of Copenhagen and is editor-in-chief of the book series Women in Art.
