Fun indoor activities on Bornholm

Indoor activities on Bornholm can be full of laughter, movement and small breaks from the day’s plans. Here, there is room to use your body, compete just for fun, lean back in the cinema darkness or gather around an activity where the hands also get involved.

Go swimming, play bowling, try gokarting, find an indoor minigolf course, watch a film at the cinema or make your own sweets. These are experiences that can quickly bring children, adults and families together around something concrete.

Sometimes it is the simple experiences that become the highlight of the day. A hole-in-one, a laugh in the pool, a close duel on the track, a film that gets talked about afterwards, or the scent of warm sweets that lingers a little.

Museums and living stories

Museums are an important part of the indoor activities on Bornholm that give the holiday more depth. Here, you come close to the island’s history, art, nature and everyday life through stories that make Bornholm feel a little bigger and a little easier to understand.

Some museums open the door to dramatic chapters in the island’s history. Others show art, craftsmanship, old photographs or small traces of people who lived their lives here before us.

These are indoor activities on Bornholm for you if you want to immerse yourself, ask questions and take something with you.

When Bornholm ran on rails

There are no trains on Bornholm today, but large parts of the island’s cycle route network are actually a remnant from the time when the island had its own railway network. For more than 60 years, Bornholm had its own railway, connecting key points across the island. The three railway lines linked the island’s towns and carried everything from holiday guests and post to heavy loads of granite and Bornholm clay.

Although the last whistle sounded in 1968, the history is far from gone. You can see traces in the landscape, and if you pass by the island’s museums, for example De Bornholmske Jernbaner in Nexø or Gudhjem Museum, which is housed in the beautiful old terminus, you can dive into old photographs, look at preserved railway carriages and feel the story of the days when people took the train on the rocky island.

Art and galleries with room for immersion

Bornholm has a lively art scene where the island’s light, landscapes and materials leave their mark. In galleries and exhibition spaces, you can meet artists, works and expressions that leave room for calm, immersion and conversation.

Here, the experience is not about seeing as much as possible. It can be enough to stop in front of a painting, a sculpture, a colour or a form and give the impression a little time.

Art and galleries are a natural part of indoor activities on Bornholm for you if you want to experience the island in a quieter, more sensory way.

Unique indoor activities on Bornholm

Some experiences stay with you best when you get your hands involved. On Bornholm, you can try your hand at crafts, materials and techniques that have strong roots on the island.

Throw clay, design glass, work with colours and expression, and feel how something takes shape step by step. At craft studios and workshops, children and adults can get close to the process and understand a little more of the time, patience and work behind it.

It does not have to be perfect. What matters is the experience of creating something yourself that brings a small story home from Bornholm.

Calm, water and well-being

Indoor activities on Bornholm can also be the quiet choices. Here, the body can have warmth, water and time to settle, while the pace slows a little.

Find calm in wellness, treatments, warm pools and quiet moments where presence and well-being have space. These are experiences that give new energy for the rest of the day.
