Outdoor activities with play and small challenges

This is where activities come together when the day may have a little play, laughter and friendly competition. It could be minigolf, football golf, the trotting track, play courses and other outdoor activities where everyone can join in in their own way.

Some experiences are about winning. Most are probably more about trying, laughing, cheering and letting the day have a shared highligh

Experience Bornholm from new angles - the air, the sea and the treetops

Some outdoor activities give you a new view of Bornholm. Seen from the sea, the rocks, the coast and the small towns appear in a different way. From the air, the landscape becomes patterns of fields, forest and coastline. On horseback, in the treetops or on the rock, you feel the island with your body while the view opens around you.

Adventures at child height

Bornholm’s nature and history spark the imagination, and the island is full of experiences where adults and children can explore together. Here, you can follow in the footsteps of old legends, look for traces of trolls and feel the mystery of the underground beings. The adventure is often right at your feet and invites you to play your way through the landscape.

You can be swept up in treasure hunts, where tracks, riddles and small tasks lead you on at your own pace. Some treasure hunts take you around the island, while others are tied to places such as Hammershus, where the old walls, stairs and views make history especially vivid.

On the beach, the fine sand can become great sandcastles with rocks and sea as a backdrop. Closer to the sky, you can try being a falconer for a day, get close to the large birds of prey and feel the rush as they take off.

These are outdoor activities on Bornholm where imagination is allowed to lead the way. Here, children can play their way into history, nature and the small adventures that arise along the way.

More play under the open sky

When the adventure may continue a little longer, there are also places on Bornholm where play, water and green surroundings come together in one experience. Brændesgårdshaven is one of the classic family experiences, where children can use their bodies, explore and let the day unfold at their own pace.

You can also find playgrounds and small outdoor stops around the island, with room for a break, a swing or a little extra energy between the day’s other experiences.

Water, foraging and open gardens

When the pulse may slow, the sea, the local ingredients and the quiet oases draw you in. Bornholm’s outdoor spaces offer refreshing dips, edible discoveries and green places where the pace slows down.

You can jump straight into the clear water from the island’s harbour baths, where bridges and diving platforms invite a refreshing pause on a warm summer day.

Outdoor life is also about turning your gaze towards the forest floor, the cracks in the rocks and the hidden gardens. Search for the season’s wild herbs, berries and wild garlic in nature’s own pantry. Or head towards the island’s open gardens, where you can explore fig trees, exotic plants and lush spaces sheltered by stone walls.

These are outdoor activities on Bornholm that create a quieter connection to the island’s nature, flavours and hospitality.

Outdoor activities with history

On Bornholm, history is often right at your feet. In quarries, castle ruins, old farm settings, bunkers and landscapes where traces of the past are still visible.

Here, you can explore between the walls of Hammershus, find Lilleborg among the trees, get close to the island’s granite at Moseløkken or see how everyday life, nature and craftsmanship have shaped Bornholm through time.

These are outdoor activities on Bornholm for you if you want to experience history where it belongs. Out in the landscape, among stone, forest, coast and stories.

Outdoor activities with room for the whole day

Outdoor activities on Bornholm can be small pauses, wide views, shared laughter and experiences that stay with you a little longer. Some days call for speed and play. Others for calm, sea air, history or new places to explore.

What they have in common is that Bornholm is always close. In the landscape, in the stories, in the light, in nature and in the moments when the day finds its own direction.

Pssst...

Did you know that the world’s smallest trotting track is actually hidden in the middle of Bornholm’s largest forest, Almindingen? The track is only 580 metres long, and the sharp bends make the races incredibly intense and fast-paced.

It is a very special outdoor gathering place where you get close to the horses, feel the rush and experience a genuine local celebration under the open sky.
